Nice looking car for 3500 so they were willing to negotiate all we had to put in for was Tax Title License. So we gave them 3300 we owe 700. We asked them "what was wrong with vehicle" they said EGR needs to be replaced. We asked again is that all that's wrong no major engine problems. They said "that's all" So we took Montero to our personal mechanic. He changed EGR. And thought that was it. But after fixing EGR he heard another problem. The engine seems to have been knocking. We didn't notice this due to the loud noise of the EGR when it wasn't fixed. But now that the EGR was fixed he said that the engine knocking is due to the lifters. And if we don't change them right away the knocking noise will get worse. We called back to the vehicle place. They said to bring it back in so their mechanic could see it. Our mechanic found that they honeydewed something so that it wouldn't make a loud noise when we purchased the vehicle. He told us take it back since you haven't fully paid the vehicle swap out for a vehicle that doesn't have this problem or get money back. We are going tomorrow to see what they say. The Vortec V6 can be found in Chevrolet and other GM name brand trucks, vans and sports cars. The Vortec comes equipped with spark plugs to ignite the gasoline vapor to start the engine smoothly. Spark plugs are connected to the ignition coil with specialized spark plug wires. Over time, the wires may need to be replaced so it's important to learn the proper way to wire the Vortec spark plugs. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Spark plug removal tool Replacement spark plug wires Step by Step : 1 Open the hood to access the Vortec V6 engine. If the vehicle was recently driven wait a half hour before attempting any maintenance on the engine or surrounding components. Locate the spark plugs; the Votec V6 is a 6-cylinder engine equipped with six spark plugs and corresponding wires. 2 Remove the spark plug wires from the original packaging. Lay each wire flat in order from shortest to longest. It's important to replace one wire at a time. This will ensure wires do not get mixed up and placed on the wrong spark plug. 3 Grasp the current spark plug wire at the base of the plug with the spark plug removal tool. Tug the tool swiftly to remove the wire. Trace the wire to the ignition coil. Unplug the wire from the coil terminal. 4 Lay the old wire over the new wires to determine the exact length match. Plug the matched new plug wire into the spark plug. Follow the same route the previous wire had. Connect the opposite end of the wire into the ignition coil. Repeat this process for each spark plug wire. 5 Check each newly installed wire to ensure they are all firmly seated in the spark plug base and ignition coil. Electronic ignition was not widely available when the engines were made up to 1980, since the technology was so new. In 2011, the internal mechanisms of the distributors are antiquated, requiring much maintenance. Electronic ignition upgrade kits are available for International Harvester engines. Pertronix Ignitor The Ignitor and Ignitor II kits from Pertronix will fit into several models of IHC distributors. You remove the points, and replace the point mounting plate with the electronic module. These kits are made for 12-volt negative ground systems. The kits are specific to the year and make of distributor. For example, for a 1957-1964 IHC truck with the Lucas distributor and a four-cylinder engine, use kit number LU-142A. Hot Spark Kit The conversion kit from Hot Spark is also manufactured for a variety of IHC engines. Due to the number of distributors used, Hot Spark states it it takes a specific fitting approach. You have to contact the company with the distributor's part number so it can match a kit accordingly. Hot Spark further stated the part number is stamped on the side of the distributor, but is usually covered up by dirt. Kits are available for all four- and six-cylinder engines. Mallory Kit The Mallory Corp. makes a kit for one IHC engine. If your V-8 engine was made from 1957 to 1980 and has a Delco distributor, use kit number 540. The kit is designed to work with the original coil and ballast resistor. No modification to the distributor is needed. This kit is designed for 12-volt negative ground systems only. Electronic Ignition Coil Consider upgrading the coil as well. A stock coil will work, but high power coils work best with electronic ignition. These coils produce higher voltages than stock, resulting in a stronger spark at the spark plugs. Many coils designed for electronic ignition systems are available from various manufacturers. An example is the Flame Thrower series of coils from Pertronix. A qualified IHC mechanic can assist you in matching a high-performance coil to your particular engine.
